Why care about mental health out of all the things in the world?

Mental health is not a joke. In today’s world, it is the most important thing in a person’s life, as it affects the entire lifestyle of an individual, be it physical or social health. In a lot of countries people are still unaware of what is mental health and why is it so important, and others generally don’t take it that seriously, following the stigma around it specially. People restrain themselves from coming out in the open and accepting to themselves that they need help. This is one of the biggest problems that hovers around mental health.

This is not a caste, gender, or religion problem, it’s a universal problem, people who are above the poverty line are equally affected by the stigma as those who come below the poverty line, they all don’t want to accept that having a mental problem can be normal. Everyone worries about what society will say if they accept that there is a problem. Because of this reason so many people suffer throughout their lives and are unable to stay happy with themselves, because some don’t want to get help and others don’t realize that there is a problem.

It is not necessary that a person needs to have a mental health-related problem to seek professional help from a mental health specialist. A person can simply visit a specialist to talk about himself or herself if they are feeling low, confused, or just need someone to talk to. The specialists are there to listen to you, and not judge you. At times that is exactly what is needed by someone to feel good about themselves and to sort out things in their life.

Taking that first step of acknowledging the fact that there is something wrong or that you need help, makes all the difference in the world. That is when you will be able to move up on the ladder, by seeking the required help that you need. And from there your journey starts towards reaching your desired goals. You just need to be more accepting and truer to yourself, then everything will follow through.

Be open to the idea of trying things out in life, don’t confuse yourself with the web of stereotypes that surround you, think about everything that is there and is available for you. Keep your health as your priority, be it physical or mental health, because both of them are interlinked with each other, if one is not doing so well, then the other will also get affected directly or indirectly, e.g. when you have a fever or a cold, you tend to feel low and emotionally drained out, you don’t feel like doing the usual things that made you happy normally, instead of feeling happy and energized, you feel sad and gloomy. This is just one of the common examples from our day-to-day life that shows the relationship between mental health and physical health. There are a lot of such examples when you sit to think about it.

It all comes down to the fact that mental health is essential and it should be given utmost attention regardless of what people have to say; your health is in your hands. Only you can change things for yourself, others can only comment, but you’re the one who has to take the action, no one else, for better or for worse, everything depends on that.
