In 1980, at Sullivan County Community College 19 years old Bobby excitedly entered the campus for the first time ever, only to be mistaken as someone else. A fellow student met with Bobby and told him how strikingly similar he looked with Eddie. They arranged for a meet-up and twins separated at birth were united by destiny! This news was taking over the newsstands like a storm. But the surprises were not over yet. The news caught eyes of David who could see an exact image of himself on the papers. It wasn’t twins, but triplets! Bobby, Eddie and David; these were three people who look, talk, walk, sit exactly alike and have the same taste in things from cigarettes to women.

Is this just a magical coincidence or is there something more to that? Why were these three people separated at birth? How far should humans go in the name of science? The answers to these burning questions are in this thrilling documentary directed by Tim Wardle, starring the triplets themselves: Edward Galland, David Kellman and Robert Shafran.

The film tells us the story of a set of American triplets adopted by three different families with three different socio-economic backgrounds and it addresses the age-old question of ‘Nature v/s Nurture’. The brothers were separated by a New York City adoption agency called Louise Wise Services, which declined to tell their adoptive parents they were a set of three. And all of this was a part of a research project studying ‘siblings separated at birth’ by psychoanalyst Peter Neubauer. His assistant Natasha Josefowitz, the 90-year-old was interviewed by Wardle which is also shown in the film.

This experiment was a milestone in terms of rethinking ethical considerations and human rights while conducting research in the field of Psychology. And lastly, it really opens up the possibility in your mind: anybody can just walk around the corner and discover that they have a twin out there.
