Emphasis on the importance of personality traits in determining work behaviours

Personality is a progressive alignment of psychophysical systems within the individual that distinguish distinct responses and decisions, such as being persistent and stable.No two individuals have the same personalities. Each of them has unique characters. The individuals might possess some identical characteristics, but not all of the features can be similar. The concept of Big-Five presents quintessential personality traits. The Big-Five consists of five major factors that influence the personality, namely, Openness to Experience, Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Agreeableness (Yunus, Wahab, Ismail, & Othman, 2018). These factors determined the individual’s behavior in the workplace. It gave a broader idea of the tendency to behave in particular circumstances.

Analysis of the Big-Five Dimensions

Extraversion:

Extraversion is a pleasant feeling, comfortable to interact with the surroundings, welcoming, dynamic, and have emphatic sentiments. Fundamentally, They are grouped into two combinations. They are Introverts and Extroverts, The introverts are people who mainly focus on their inner feelings, and the extroverts concentrate on talking to people making strong connections and ties with people. The employees who exhibit the extrovert trait are open and outward, and They are likely to be successful in maintaining networks with the people and also managing the people efficiently. The employees who manifest the introvert trait have the ability to analyze responsiveness to people’s innermost emotions and characteristics.

Agreeableness:

The trait is classified into two combinations. They are Agreeableness and Disagreeable. The employees who possess agreeableness are compassionate, and they appreciate collaboration within the individuals. The people who display agreeableness are similarly encouraging about other individuals; in essence, individuals are reliable, honest, and approachable. The agreeable employees are connected to co-workers in their respective workplaces. They can quickly gel with their colleagues and produce optimal yields. Furthermore, We have employees who possess a disagreeable trait. These individuals are more concerned with their benefits than the concerns of other people. These personalities do not make an effort to think about others. This type of trait affects the harmony in the workplace as they are self-centered, and the individuals are only concerned about themselves.

Conscientiousness:

These employees who present conscientiousness are efficient, coordinated, systematic, and meticulous in conducting the projects or tasks in the organization and will obey the schedule. To accomplish their objectives, a conscientious employee will be ready to be hard-working, dedicating their consciousness and strength towards a particular ambition. They are more enthusiastic about persevering in challenging situations. The other type is the people who possess low conscientiousness as a trait. Employees who are unconscientious point to being disorderly. Employees who show low levels of conscientiousness quality also direct to engage in unpredictable behavior. 

Openness to experience:

The employees have a broad perspective on innovative approaches, and they hold the willingness to accept any form of change. During my work experience previously, I have worked with a co-worker who possessed high levels of openness. He always displayed his innovative thoughts to the team. He, being productive, welcoming to unique and diverse approaches, and also values the decisions of the other individuals. This type of trait helps people to enhance their way of thinking and also to provide optimal solutions for challenging situations in the organization.

Neuroticism:

The individuals undergo negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, or pressure. People also frequently consider ordinary circumstances as unsafe circumstances. This group is quickly aroused, experiences higher amounts of stress. The inflection is rapidly shifting; it’s challenging to determine precisely and to manage stress efficiently. The Organisational peace is a detail that rates the highest amongst the critical criteria, and they have been considered significant in determining the condition of the work environment. In this way, the character is declared to be hugely prominent in shaping behavior in an organization by having a direct influence on the position of the work environment. The employee works happily in a peaceful environment. The individual concentrates on the work which has to be done effectively.

The character has a notable impact on the work ethics of members of the organization. Those with positive attitudes towards work are anticipated to be working with carrying their positive attitude, and the positive mood is reflected in their work, offering more projects, and involving in more effective ways of production.

The organization can start framing a personality test for improving the work culture in the organization. The test helps the organization actually to understand its employees accurately. Every individual has a uniquely personal collection of personality traits when an organization plans on conducting the personality tests they will be able to know the employee in detail. Personality tests assist in confirming things you previously believed to be accurate, or they may enlighten you to understand a different side of yourself you didn’t recognize that existed to date.

To surmise, Personality traits play a significant role in knowing the individual’s character. The personality traits that assist the organization to establish groups and teams can be advantageous to the organization. The prediction of the behavior of the employee not only depends on the personality traits, but it is also dependent on the circumstances. The way the employees deal with the problems in certain situations.
