Tele-Manas cell will give technical Mental Health Services to the Indian Armed Forces and their families

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for operating a special cell of Tele-Manas collaboratively as a airman design for a period of two times at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. It’s the National Telemental Health Helpline of MoHFW that will give 24×7 internal health backing to the fortified forces labour force and their families. The MoU was inked by Lt General Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services and Ms. Aradhna Patnaik, AS & MD of MOHFW.

Tele-Manas is the digital interpretation of the District Mental Health Programme (DMHP). It offers inclusive, comprehensive and intertwined 24/7 tele- internal health services on the risk-free number, 14416, in each State and Union Territory (UT) for easy access to internal health support.

There are 51 functional Tele-Manas cells performing across all 36 States and UTs presently. It offers services in 20 different languages. As the need for tele- internal health services in the Armed Forces has become apparent, the main aphorism of the program is to prevent the unique stressors faced by the Indian service.

A technical approach to internal health care is demanded to deal with the functional terrain, artistic challenges, and specific stressors related to indigenous conflicts in the Armed Forces. The MoU ensures effective service according to the unique internal health needs to promote internal health and well-being of the Armed Forces labour force and their families. The Armed Forces will also have direct access to technical care.

Since its launch in October 2022, Tele-Manas has entered over 10 lakh calls and is managing further than 3,500 calls daily which indicates a significant demand for internal health services in the Armed Forces.

The special Tele-Manas Cell was established on 1st December 2023, at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, AVSM, UYSM, VSM, SM. elderly officers from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the event, Ms Aradhna Patnaik, AS & MD of MoHFW, emphasized on the significance of attending to the internal health enterprises of the fortified forces.
Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt General Daljit Singh, stated that there has been a long-standing need for internal health comfort for the fortified forces labour force, and now, with the devoted Tele MANAS cell, fortified forces’ labour force and their families will admit pivotal internal health backing 24×7, addressing their internal health enterprises more effectively.
