Several factors play a role in an individual’s mental health including biological factors like genetic blueprint, chemical activities in the brain, etc, and environmental factors like one’s social relationships, lifestyle, geographical and economic factors, etc. One of the key roles is played by the amount of nutrition one gets from their food.

In a study, published in The British Journal of Nutrition, conducted at the University of Otago, researchers found the furry fruit improved vitality and mood in as little as four days. The study was conducted for eight weeks with 155 adults with low vitamin C levels, comparing the effects of vitamin C, placebo, and kiwi fruit. This research not only highlights the outstanding effects of the fruit but also the significance of whole fruits over supplements.

The findings also suggested that Vitamin C can be a great source for overall wellbeing, and mood booster along with low depression levels, while its deficiency is associated with higher levels of depression and cognitive deterioration. The results of this study encourage us to include various nutrient-rich foods in our diet.

According to Professor Conner, The results of this study are very beneficial for people because they can change their mood, by bringing in a small change of adding kiwi to their diet. He also stressed that this study introduces an original methodology in nutritional research, “ the use of intensive smartphone surveys which offer a real-time understanding of the day-to-day changes in mood-related outcomes.” 

As we are aware of the fact that, physical and mental states are closely related and nutrition plays a key role in maintaining one’s overall health.
