Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has issued its notifications regarding admission in M.Phil Clinical Psychology. Here are the details for your preparation.
What is M.Phil in Clinical Psychology? It is a two-year course approved by RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India). RCI issues a license to work as Clinical Psychologist within India. This one of the most sought after course by psychology aspirants requiring dedicated preparation for its entrances.
Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital: There are few institutes located across the country providing this licensed course. RML is one of the prestigious institution with only 12 seats available. Affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, RML lies in the capital with a surge of patient load providing great exposure to aspiring clinical psychologists. The date of entrance exam is 2nd June.
What is the eligibility? A Master’s degree in the field of psychology or its equivalent that is UGC recognized. Minimum marks are 55% in aggregate. A 50% minimum aggregated marks is required for SC/ST/PWD candidates. A special paper in clinical psychology is usually preferable.
It is to be noted that RML allows candidate who have completed their master’s from part time, correspondence or distance education; unlike few other institutes which only offer this to students with regular Master’s degree. A stipend of Rs. 12,000 is provided per month.
What is the syllabus?
General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Research Methodology and Statistics, Social Psychology, Motivation and Personality, Cognitive Psychology, Experimental psychology, Psychological Assessment, Health psychology, Physiological Psychology, Psychopathology and Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychological Assessment and Rehabilitation, Therapy and Psychological Interventions are the topics for the entrance exam
Based on marks distribution, clinical psychology holds maximum weightage with 20%, followed by general psychology, child psychology, counselling and psychotherapy research methodology and statistics and psychological assessments and tests, each with 15%. Social Psychology holds 5% weightage.
Entrance test pattern: The exam is considered on all India basis with objective type questions to be filled in OMR. The exam duration will be of 2 hours with 100 MCQ questions. Each question will carry 4 marks without any negative marking. Medium of language is English.

What after exam? The merit list will be prepared based on examination performance. Minimum qualifying marks for general category students is 50% with 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and EWS category. The interview is followed, with 3 candidates per seat based on the matrix of reservation. Exam holds 90% weightage whereas interview is for 10%.
Along with RML, other top institues include NIMHANS Bangalore, IHBAS Delhi, CIP Ranchi etc. The syllabus for entrance exam of most of these institutes often overlap with each other, providing an edge for preparation. Course material from guiding sources like UPS Education can be beneficial.
