RCI Renames M.Phil Clinical Psychology to M.A. in Clinical Psychology under NEP

The M.Phil Clinical Psychology program has been renamed as MA Clinical Psychology by RCI. This change follows the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which requires the discontinuation of M.Phil programs in all fields.

Entry requirement 

• Minimum educational qualification is 4 years B.A. or B.Sc in Psychology degree from a UGC-recognized university. 
• A minimum of 55% marks in aggregate is essential. 
• For the SC/ST category, a relaxation of 5% will be given. 

Guidelines for those with 3 years UG degree in Psychology 

• If anyone has completed 3 years UG programme in Psychology. 
  • they are required to pass a fourth-year bridge course or 
  • complete the first year of the Master’s Programme in Psychology with a minimum of 55% marks. 

Admission Procedure 

Admission will be based on an entrance test and a written exam. 

Duration 

Full-time clinical training programme for 2 years. 

Attendance 

A minimum of 80% attendance is mandatory to attend the examination.

Thirty days of casual leave minimum of 15 per academic year shall be permitted during the two-year course period.

RCI 

RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) is a regulatory body that monitors services given to persons with disabilities. And to maintain a central rehabilitation register of all qualified professionals and personnel working in the field of rehabilitation and special education. RCI standardize the syllabi and provides licenses for those who work for persons with disability by providing treatment or enhancing their quality of life. 

NEP 

NEP (New Education Policy) in India introduced several key reforms aimed at transforming the quality of education being provided. It introduced the concept of a 4-year bachelor’s degree with the flexibility to withdraw from the course at any year with a certificate according to their qualification and the years they have attended the college. Along with the so many changes M.Phil course was discontinued in all the fields while in Psychology M.Phil is considered as the course that gives practical exposure and RCI license to practice and work in a clinical setting.
