NIMHANS works independently under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Freshly, NIMHANS has announced Walk-in-Selection cum Interview for the post vacancy of consultant psychiatrist/Medical Officer.

Educational qualification:

  • MD or DNB degree in Psychiatry from a recognized university (for consultant psychiatry)
  • MBBS qualification from a recognized university (for medical officer)
Additional qualifications:
  • Clinical/ research experience in community psychiatry experience working with multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Experience in psychiatry or public health.
  • Kannada language proficiency (both read & write).
Salary:
  • Consultant psychiatrist: Rs 1,10,000/- per month (consolidated)
  • Medical officer: Rs 75,000/- per month (consolidated)

Work location: Belur (Hassan district, Karnataka)

Maximum age limit:

  • 40 years for consultant psychiatrist
  • 30 years for medical officer
Nature of work:
  • Serve as a team NAMAN’s leader in Belur Taluka.
  • Diagnosis & treatment of all screened patients clinically, follow ups as well as planning care plan.
  • Training for every front-line employee.
  • Team monitoring (during NAMAN is implemented).
  • Multi sectoral coordination and conduction of IEC awareness programs, promotive and also preventive programs.
  • Promotive and preventive aspects of mental health to be carried out to the public.
  • Communication with team.
  • Maintaining data of screening, also referrals by the front-line workers & MO of the PHCs.
  • Monitoring field level workers.

Project duration:

3 years of the contract, but initial appointment duration is 6 months, but extendable based on the performance of the candidate.

Note:

  1. With salary there is no additional benefit. Salaries are consolidated with 5% increment after each year of service.
  2. Candidates are required for registration before half an hour of the interview. No TD/DA is required.
  3. Selected one will be informed by email.
  4. “Individuals already working on other projects at NIMHANS must obtain a no-objection certificate, which the current PI will provide.

Consultant psychiatrist is a specialist medical doctor. Registered on the specialist register of the general medical council, who has complete training in psychiatry.

Roles and responsibilities of consultant psychiatrist:

  1. Clinical assessment & diagnosis: do thorough evaluations about the history, symptoms as well as mental health issues of patients for better understanding. Create accurate psychiatric diagnosis based on the evaluation.
  2. Plan of treatment & implementation: establish customized treatment plans which involve medication management, psychotherapy, as well as other interventions. Also involved collaboration with other healthcare professionals such as psychologists, social workers and nurses.
  3. Patient monitoring: keep a close eye on the development of the patient and do modification in the treatment as per the necessity.
  4. Follow-up: schedule follow-up appointments to evaluate the result of treatment. Also deal with new issues that may emerge.
  5. Crisis intervention: deliver crisis intervention services for those who undergo severe mental health problem. For better treatment work together with hospital staff & emergency services.
  6. Ethical & legal responsibilities: follow the legal and ethical guidelines for practicing the psychiatry. Guarantee confidentiality as well as informed consent of the patient.
