India has witnessed a phenomenal 41% rise in internet searches on mental health in 2024. The rise in searches over the year indicates a growing awareness of the need to emphasize mental as well as physical health. There has been a recently reported increase in search inquiries related to psychological disorders. This trend is especially evident in non-metro cities, where specific locations have emerged as significant drivers of online healthcare searches.

The result reveals the acceptance of mental wellness across the nation with search-related items used to describe anxiety, depression, and stress management growing substantially. Such rising interest points to an altered social setting that had previously perceived such conversations as taboo. The report also indicates that searches related to healthcare on the whole have grown by 23% since the beginning of the first ten months in 2024. Non-metro cities have been the major contributors to this.

Besides an increasing interest in mental health, the report also highlights growing curiosity regarding the old Indian healing practices. Rising search terms related to Ayurveda, yoga and holistic health methods suggest that many individuals are now exploring a much broader approach to wellness. They are looking forward to a way that combines modern mental health techniques with the age-old traditions of a bygone era.

Experts attribute several factors to this increase in health-related searches. Increased internet accessibility, greater awareness campaigns and a changing social landscape have all contributed to shifting how Indians approach health. More people, especially in smaller cities and towns, are seeking resources and solutions for mental health, which were once harder to access in these regions.

Statistical data also reveals that it is the younger generations, especially millennials and Gen Z, who have driven the quest for help regarding psychological issues as many start seeking therapy, counselling or self-help tools through online platforms. Experts feel that this is the way forward in destigmatizing mental health and ensuring better access to care for people across the country. It can therefore be concluded that attitudes regarding mental and physical well-being are now changing.
