Consumption of Protein in Midlife Impacts Women’s Ageing: Study

According to the new research study, women who consume sufficient protein, especially plant protein, in their routine diet will probably stay healthy as they grow. The study was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition on January 17 and was carried out by the experts from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA). According to this new research from Tufts University in Boston, those women who consume protein in higher amount, especially plant protein, in their routine, diet, during their midlife is connected to healthier growing in females.

Analysis of chronic disease conditions

The Harvard-based Nurses’ Health Study tracked 48,000 female healthcare professionals from 1984 to 2016 to examine their self-reported data with the help of the researchers involved in the study. During these years, thousands of surveys in every four years for participants were conducted by the researchers to examine dietary intake. The method which was used in calculating protein intake was to multiply the frequency of each food items’ consumption by its protein content.

The Harvard University Food Composition Database was used to determine the overall amount of protein consumed. In 2016, participants also respond to a mental health questionnaire. And also completed questionnaires in the same year on the degree or level of physical functioning as well as mental health. The chronic diseases which are involved in this study are: type 2 diabetes, cancer, stroke, kidney failure, multiple sclerosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis etc. They contrasted the diets of individuals who indicated at least one of the illnesses with who did not reported any type of chronic illnesses.

Connection to healthier aging
