Dr. Gaithri Fernando is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Cal State L.A. Her research and clinical interests lie in understanding the experience and expression of traumatic stress, with a particular focus on the ways in which culture shapes these experiences. She has published several papers on the topic, mostly focusing on Sri Lanka. She is also a clinical psychologist and her practice has focused on providing treatment for torture survivors. Some of her papers call for a different paradigm in examining traumatic stress.
