It’s natural for a new mother to experience separation anxiety when she has to leave her child for the time being. This can lead to feelings of guilt about it as well. Recently, actor Alia Bhatt talked about it openly on her Instagram handle. Alia Bhatt asked his followers on Instagram handle to an AMA (ask me anything) session on Sunday, where she answered a series of questions asked by her followers.
In the session, one follower asked her, ‘How do you deal with anxiety’? In answer to this, she spoke about how she feels anxious when sudden changes happen in her life and she has no control over her situation. She also said that sometimes when we try to cover our emotions, it harms us more than providing benefits. She shared her feelings of separation anxiety when she had to leave her daughter, Raha.
What is separation anxiety?
Separation Anxiety is about fear or being overwhelmed when leaving or being away from someone to whom they are attached or close. They might get thoughts that sometimes bad things will happen to them or that they will never see them again. Such negative thoughts make the person feel anxious and lead to difficulty focusing on the present moment, where they are.
Maternal separation anxiety?
Maternal separation anxiety is about experiencing sadness, worry, or guilt during short-term separation from their child. It can be triggered as a result of a traumatic birth, existing anxiety, or prenatal or postnatal anxiety, or it may be simpler—by the act of being a parent. Being parents brings news, change, and lots of responsibilities in life. She said that when she leaves her daughter with family members, she feels less guilty about it.
