Admissions are Open for Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Calcutta

Located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, the institution of Calcutta, also referred to popularly as the University of Calcutta and shortened as CU is a public state institution. It comprises 16 institutes and 151 affiliated undergraduate colleges in Kolkata and the adjacent areas. The founders established this first multifunctional university in Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent on January 24, 1857. The Department of Psychology is inviting offline applications for admission to the Ph.D. Program in Psychology.

Important Dates for the Applying Candidates:

• Last Date to Apply: 08/12/2023
• Schedule for Written Test: 18/12/2023 (in the Department of Psychology’s N.N. Sengupta Auditorium starting at 12:00 p.m.)
• Result of Written Test (Displayed on Notice Board): 19/12/2023 (10:30 a.m.)
• Schedule for Interview: 19/12/2023 (11:00 a.m.)

The pattern of Written Examination:

• Candidates, who will have to take the written exam must submit a 40-mark research proposal.
• Students must respond to a single question from any of the six specialization areas—Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Research Methodology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Health Psychology, and Industrial Psychology—in 800 words of 20 marks.
• The written examination has a maximum of 60 marks and lasts two hours.

The pattern of Written Examination:

• UGC NET (Paper II and III) in Psychology, as well as the present M.A./M.Sc. in Psychology curriculum at the University of Calcutta.

Exempted to Appear in Written Examination:

• No written test is needed of applicants who have preliminarily passed the M.Phil. in Psychology or other similar examinations, the UGC (JRF) examination, the NET, SET, SLET, Teacher Fellowship, or other equivalent examinations.
• To be admitted, they must send in their application forms by the deadline of 8/12/2023, but they can also show up in person for the interview.

Application Format:

• To do research in the Department, interested individuals should obtain the form from the Psychology Department, complete it, and submit it along with a Rs. 100.00 payment using a Challan.
• The Department of Psychology, University of Calcutta (UCSTA, 92, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road, Kolkata- 700009), must enter a completed application by 8/12/2023.
• Along with a duly completed application form, applicants should attach self-attested copies of their master’s degree certificates and mark sheets, NET/ SET/M.Phil. certificates (if applicable), age verification certificates, and caste certificates (if applicable).
